Even if the OP was able to convert his old Startac from analog to CDMA it may not work on a modern network. Motorola Startacs were made in digital versions (I had a CDMA model dating to 2000) so it’s possible for the OP to obtain one (probably for rather cheap) and not having to bother converting his old phone. To activate the device on prepaid service, refer to Set up Verizon Prepaid Service. If powered off, press and hold the Power button until the moto logo appears then release. I managed to activate an old Motorola RAZR V3m on Ting after the ban went into effect, so it seems likely that we'll still be able to activate old phones if we manually program them! Data of course will not be possible but it's not like we need to browse the web on our Motorola StarTAC.
Can I Activate A Motorola Startac
Hey Everyone!
I've got a 15 year old Motorola StarTac ST7868W phone that I'd like to try and activate, just for the hell of it. It's one of the later model phones, so in addition to the long-gone AMPS network, it also supports 2G digital CDMA 800. It was originally a Verizon phone, but they won't activate it because it is not E911 compatible. About three years ago, I was able to get it going with PagePlus, but I have no idea if they would still support it. I'm pretty sure they piggyback on the Verizon network, which is supposed to still support 2G until the end of 2019. Anyone try and play with an old phone recently?
Thanks!
Joe
